“Green-Schools is Ireland’s leading environmental management and education programme for schools. Promoting long-term, whole-school action for the environment Green-Schools is a student-led programme with involvement from the wider community.”ACC was awarded their Travel Flag in October 2021. Since then we have formed a new committee and have expanded our number of Green-School Ambassadors. Our Ambassadors include students from 1st - 6th Year.
Our Green-Schools committee is made up of two representatives from each year group (gender balanced), teachers, Senior Leadership Team, Student Council, BAM FM, and Parents Association. Our GS Teams Channel is full of tips on how we can live more sustainably, and there are always fun competitions to enter. In the past ACC student Josh Oyiki won the Green-School's Ireland, Clean Air Week Poetry competition. Clink on the link to hear his poem.As part of our steps towards a Biodiversity Flag we are reviewing our Litter and Waste, Energy, Water and Travel themes. We have set out goals and have been busy improving biodiversity on our school grounds.
We have planted hundreds of pollinating friendly bulbs for bees, we have planted tree saplings, the mowing on our school grounds is now done on rotation, leaving areas of grasses and wildflowers. Some of our students are working away in our polytunnel growing trees from seed. We have collected acorns from the old oak tree on our grounds and are waiting in anticipation for them to grow! The awareness days we hold all link the current state of our climate and environment to the loss of biodiversity.Every year we get involved in COP, Climate Awareness Week, Clean Air Week, Tree Week, Biodiversity Week and WOW days by creating awareness campaigns.

Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Programme
We are delighted that our school has been selected to participate in the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) programme. SRTS is designed to enable students to safely walk, cycle and scoot to school. SRTS is a national programme focused on improving safety at the front of schools and facilitating active travel to schools.
